About Brian Manwaring

I began my career as a mechanical engineer and gradually moved into broader operating responsibility—engineering management, operations, sales and marketing, general management, and eventually multi-site manufacturing leadership.

That progression shaped how I think about organizations. Engineering taught me to understand systems and consequences. Operations made those consequences immediate. Commercial responsibility broadened the picture to customers and markets. General management brought those perspectives together: people, equipment, capital, customers, financial performance, and the decisions that connect them.

I currently serve as a Regional General Manager with Novae / H&H Trailers. Before that, I spent seven years as General Manager of Powder River Livestock Equipment after earlier roles there in engineering, operations, and sales and marketing.

Over time, I became increasingly interested in questions of judgment, capability, responsibility, authority, development, and the conditions under which people and organizations become more capable. Those questions are the source of the essays collected here.

Wally’s Dogs grew from a practical problem I encountered repeatedly: capable operating people could often see that a P&L had changed without being equally comfortable determining why.

I earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Brigham Young University.
